WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Babson women's tennis team saw the fall portion of its 2007-08 season come to a close on Saturday evening, as the third-seeded Beavers fell to second-seeded MIT, 5-2, in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament at Wellesley College. With the loss, the Beavers close out the fall with a stellar record of 10-5. Babson reached double-digit wins for the first time in four years earlier in the day, when they defeated #6 Mount Holyoke, 5-1, in the quarterfinals. MIT held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play. At number one doubles, MIT's Leslie Hansen and Mariah Hoover posted an 8-2 win while at number three Karina Pikhart and Melissa Diskin paired up for an 8-6 victory. Babson's point came courtesy of a close 9-7 win from sophomore Jessica Huang and Huang continued to play well in singles play, as she coasted, 6-0, 6-0, at number four. However, MIT took matches at number one, number two and number five for the overall victory. Leslie Hansen was a 6-1, 6-3 winner, Liz Denys picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and Melissa Diskin's 6-4, 6-1 win clinched the match for MIT. #2 MIT def. #3 Babson, 5-2
