WELLESLEY, Mass. - The third-seeded Babson women's tennis team held serve in its quarterfinal round match of the 2007 NEWMAC Championship Tournament at Wellesley on Saturday morning, as the Beavers defeated sixth-seeded Mount Holyoke by a score of 5-1. With the win, Babson moves on to play second-seeded MIT later in the day, with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship match. The Beavers took a commanding lead by sweeping the doubles play, highlighted by a very close 9-7 victory by juniors Heather Walsh and Courtney Farrell at number one. Junior co-captain Kali Hogan and sophomore Jessica Huang added an 8-4 win at number two, and senior co-captain Jamie Burke and sophomore Lorena Becerra completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory at number three. Babson sealed the victory with two quick wins in singles play, as Walsh prevailed at number three, 6-3, 6-1, and Becerra cruised at five, 6-1, 6-1. Mount Holyoke notched its lone point with a 6-1, 6-4 win at number two by Meaghan Sloane. #3 Babson def. #6 Mount Holyoke, 5-1 Doubles Singles
