BABSON PARK, Mass. - Sophomore Lorena Becerra rallied from an opening set defeat to post the decisive victory as the Babson College women's tennis team defeated visiting Hamilton College, 5-3, in a non-conference match as part of the Wellesley Invitational on Saturday. With the win, the Beavers improved to 14-8 on the year, while the Continentals fell to 5-4. Kara and Marni Powers took down Babson's top tandem of junior co-captain Kali Hogan and sophomore Jessica Huang, 8-5, at number one doubles, but the Beavers claimed wins at both two and three to lead 2-1 heading into singles play. The duo of Becerra and junior Heather Walsh posted an 8-5 win in the second spot, while senior co-captain Jamie Burke teamed with sophomore Liz Sheerin on an 8-3 win at three. Hamilton picked up wins in the top two singles positions, but Huang and Burke maintained Babson's advantage with victories of their own. Huang prevailed 7-5, 6-1 in the third slot, while Burke rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at six. Becerra then sealed the match for the Beavers, as she bounced back from an opening set loss to take her match in a suberbreaker at number four, 6-7, 6-3, 10-7. It was the sophomore's sixth straight singles win, improving her individual record to 12-5 on the year.
