WALTHAM, Mass. - The Babson women's tennis team built an early 3-0 lead in doubles play and then withstood a furious comeback attempt from host Brandeis University as the Beavers held on for an exciting 5-4 victory on Tuesday afternoon. It was Babson's first win over their local rivals in six years, as the Green and White improved to 13-6 on the year. Babson's doubles sweep was highlighted by a grueling 9-7 victory by sophomore Lorena Becerra and junior Heather Walsh at number two. Junior co-captain Kali Hogan and sophomore Jessica Huang added an 8-4 win at one, while senior co-captain Jamie Burke and sophomore Liz Sheerin teamed up for a key 8-6 victory at three. Brandeis (6-4) came storming back in singles play, getting on the board first at number five as sophomore Ariana Sanai won, 6-0, 6-0. Rookie Rachel Rosman took a 6-3, 6-1 decision at number one and senior Colleen Donnelly won 6-1, 7-5, at two, knotting the match at 3-3. After Huang took a 6-4, 6-4, win at number three, Brandeis sophomore Emily Weisberger defeated her opponent, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, at six. In the decisive match at number four, Becerra pulled out a three-set thriller over Brandeis rookie Mackenzie Gallegos, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, to secure the overall victory.
