PUERTO RICO - The Babson women's tennis team closed out its spring break trip to Puerto Rico in impressive fashion, as the Beavers overpowered SUNY New Palz, 7-1, on Tuesday morning. With the win, Babson will return home with an overall record of 12-6. Only two of the three doubles matches were played, with Babson claiming victories in both. Junior co-captain Kali Hogan teamed up with sophomore Jessica Huang for a 9-7 win at number one, and junior Heather Walsh and sophomore Lorena Becerra combined forces for a dominating 8-0 victory at number two. Hogan lost a tight match at number one singles, 6-4, 6-4, but Babson swept the remaining five contests to run away with the 7-1 win. Walsh won a tough match at two, 6-4, 6-3, Huang prevailed easily at three, 6-3, 6-1, and Becerra pulled out a tough first-set tiebreaker to win at four, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Sophomore Liz Sheerin added a 6-4, 6-3 victory at number five for the Beavers, and senior co-captain Jamie Burke rounded out the Babson scoring with a victory in the closest match of the day at six, 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, (10-8).
