5/5/08Lynch, Necklas Head List Of Award Winners At 27th Annual Senior Athletics Banquet The Babson College Athletics Department held its 27th Annual Senior Awards Banquet on Sunday night, where a total of seven student-athletes were honored. Women's soccer and Swimming and Diving senior Meg Lynch was named Female Athlete of the Class, while men's soccer senior Chris Necklas was selected as the Male Athlete of the Class. Softball senior Jess Byrn and baseball senior Matt Delaney were named the Scholar-Athletes of the Class, and track and field senior Dan Cowan took home the Michael J. Conlon Award. In addition to the senior awards, President Brian M. Barefoot '66 P'01 and his wife Pam Barefoot P'01 were the recipients of the prestigious Paul C. Staake Award for outstanding contributions to Babson Athletics, while a pair of first-year athletes were also honored. Women's soccer, basketball, and lacrosse first-year Kristy Benoit received the Lori Vengrow Award, and baseball freshman Andrew Aizenstadt claimed the Colin "Chip" Brown Award. [+]
2/24/08Women's Swimming and Diving Finishes Sixth At NEWMAC Championships The Babson women's swimming and diving team wrapped up its season at the 2008 NEWMAC Championships at Wellesley College on Sunday, as the Beavers finished seventh overall. Highlighting the day for Babson was a record-setting performance by the 400 freestyle relay team consisting of senior captain Meg Lynch, senior Erica Salisbury, senior Skye Hendrix, and first-year Mia Filippini. After finishing first in the morning trials, the foursome took sixth overall in the finals with a time of 3:44.42 - breaking the previous program mark of 2:45.28 set last year. Lynch also added a new school record in a timed trial of the 100 IM, while Filippini did the same in the 50 back. Seniors Erika Gammon and Skye Hendrix closed out their careers in strong fashion, finishing 15th and 16th in the 200 breast and 200 back, respectively. [+]
2/23/08Lynch Swims Final Individual NEWMAC Events; Finishes Second In 100 Fly And 100 Breast Senior captain Meg Lynch finished second in her final two individual events at the 2008 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships at Wellesley College on Saturday evening, including her second 'B' cut qualifier in as many days. Lynch finished second overall with a time of 59.17 in the 100 butterfly, and just minutes later took second again in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.28. The latter mark was just shy of her own program record in the event, and it surpassed the provisional qualifying mark for nationals. With 'B' cuts in both the 200 IM and 100 breast, Lynch will now await the announcement of the NCAA Championship field over the coming weeks. First-year Mia Filippini also had another great day for the Beavers, finishing fifth in the 100 back and seventh in the 100 fly. [+] |
