Program History
With more than five decades of history between them, the men's and women's swimming and diving programs are among the most strongly rooted sports at Babson. The men's team began back in 1963, while the women's squad started in 1984. Since their inception, the two programs have enjoyed both team and individual success. Over the past 23 years, the women have won a total of 117 meets while having a number of swimmers qualify for nationals. On the men's side, the Beavers have a combined record of 224-120 over the past 23 years, while individuals such as Babson Athletics Hall of Famers Craig Saint-Amour '75, Paul Gelinas '76, and Michael Hobbs '92 have celebrated record-setting careers.
The swim teams have continued to enjoy great success in recent years, as the men's team went 11-3 and finished second at the NEWMAC Championships - its highest finish ever - in 2002. This past winter, current sophomore Aaron Paradis won the NEWMAC Championship and earned All-Conference honors in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events while also qualifying for selection to nationals.
The women's team enjoyed its best finish at the conference meet in 2005, taking fifth place out of 10 teams. Individually, current senior Meg Lynch and Rachael Bishop '07 became the first two All-NEWMAC honorees at the event in 2005, while Lynch became the program's first two-event winner that year and its first three-event winner in 2006. Lynch, who was also selected to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships in 2006, making her the first female swimmer in Babson history to participate at nationals, then won two more NEWMAC titles this past winter, giving her seven in her magnificent career.
