Program History
After enjoying moderate success in its first 14 years at the varsity level, the Babson softball program has erupted onto the New England and national scene in the past six seasons. In 2001, the Beavers set a new team record with 18 victories, matching their win total from the two previous years combined. That set the stage for a spectacular 2002 campaign in which All-Conference and All-New England star Colleen Kelly '04 led the team to a 25-14 record and the squad's first-ever ECAC Tournament berth.
Following a solid 18-win season in 2003, Babson continued its stellar play with a 26-18 mark in 2004. The Beavers then enjoyed the finest season in program history in 2005, going 38-8 overall, winning their first-ever NEWMAC Tournament championship and gaining the team's first NCAA Division III Tournament bid. Setting program records for most victories and highest winning percentage, Babson was also selected as the host for the six-team NCAA New England Regional.
In 2006, the Beavers enjoyed another historic campaign, going 35-12, winning their second straight NEWMAC Championship, and hosting the NCAA New England Regional for the second year in a row. In addition, pitcher/outfielder Meghan Gaskell '06 became the program's first-ever All-American selection when she received Second Team honors from the NFCA, and she became the first player in team history to be named NEWMAC Player of the Year. Babson's success continued this past spring, when the squad went 27-16-1 and advanced all the way to the NEWMAC Tournament finals. Following the season, centerfielder Andrea Cartullo '07 became the first person in program history to earn All-New England honors for four straight seasons.
