BABSON PARK, Mass. - After providing one of the most exciting moments of the 2007 season, Babson College sophomore back Sam Bartman (Upton, MA) has been named the NEWMAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week. It is the first such honor of her collegiate career. A key member of the Babson backfield, Bartman played all 90 minutes of a 1-0 shutout victory over MIT in the regular season finale on Tuesday. She then played the entire 110 minutes of a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Clark in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals on Saturday in a game in which the Beavers' defense allowed only two shots. After the game went to penalty kicks to determine who would advance in the tourney, the sophomore back converted Babson's final attempt to snap a 3-3 tie and send the Beavers on to the next round. The third seed in the tournament, Babson will now face seventh-seeded Wellesley in the semifinals at Wheaton this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will then play in the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m., also at Wheaton.
