Stevens, Farley Headline List of Field Hockey Award Winners

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The final postseason awards for field hockey have been announced, and Babson senior tri-captains Michele Farley (Skowhegan, Maine) and Brittany Stevens (Dudley, Mass.) headed the Beavers' list of honorees with both league and regional recognition. Both were selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team and the NFHCA New England East All-Region First Team after helping the Beavers become the first women's squad in school history to begin the season 0-4 and then win their regular season conference title. Babson, which finished the year at 14-7, recording its first-ever sweep of the NEWMAC while claiming its second regular season championship in three years.

The team's top defensive player, Farley enjoyed a career year this fall, ranking second on the team in scoring with nine goals and seven assists for 25 points. Starting all 21 games, she also led the Beavers with three game-winning goals as well as a team-high three defensive saves. The All-Conference and All-New England selections were the first of her career.

Stevens ranked fourth on the team in scoring, finishing with seven goals and two assists for 16 points while starting all 21 contests in the back and midfield. Two of her scores were game-winners, including a spectacular overtime goal in a 3-2 win over conference rival Wheaton on October 2. The All-NEWMAC honor was her second straight, while the All-New England nod was her first.

Four other Babson players also received conference honors. Sophomore Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) and first-year Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) were each named to the All-NEWMAC Second Team for the first time in their respective careers after enjoying magnificent offensive campaigns. Paladino led the team and ranked among the conference leaders with 13 goals and four assists for 30 points while starting 21 games this season, including a game-winner in a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over Wellesley that clinched the regular season championship. Fredlund also excelled on offense, ranking third on the team with nine goals and three assists for 21 points in her rookie season, including a pair of game-winning scores.

 

 

Sophomores Alyssa L'Bassi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Emily Cohen (West Grove, Pa.) also garnered league recognition, as both were named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team. L'Bassi played in 17 of the team's 21 games this fall, finishing with two goals and four points. The Beavers' lone goalkeeper, Cohen played all 1492 minutes in net this season, amassing a 14-7 record, a 1.41 goals against average, and a .691 save percentage.
