PUERTO RICO - Sophomores Alex Kamergorodsky and Brian Lafayette pulled out a big tie-break win at number one doubles and then contributed a pair of singles victories as the Babson College men's tennis team finished its spring break trip to Puerto Rico with a 5-4 win over the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico on Wednesday morning.
With their second win of the trip and third straight overall, the Beavers will return home with a record of 4-6 on the year. Gamergorodsky and Lafayette teamed up for a 9-8 win at number one, thanks to a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker. Senior co-captains Ben Edick and Walt Sea added an 8-1 blowout win at number two as Babson took a 2-1 advantage into singles play. The Beavers clinched the win by winning three of the six singles contests, including a 6-4, 6-4 triumph by Kamergorodsky at number one and a 6-3, 6-3 victory by Lafayette at number four. First-year Austin Conti rounded out the Babson scoring with a 6-2, 6-4 win at number five as the Green and White grabbed the one-point victory.
