Men's Swimming In Seventh Place After Day Two At NEWMACS

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Babson College men's swimming and diving team completed day two of the 2008 NEWMAC Championships at MIT on Saturday, where the Beavers stood in seventh place with one day of competition remaining.

Leading a host of Babson performers with personal bests were sophomore Ted Plaisted, junior captain Philippe Noelting, and junior Thayer Glassock, who each finished in the top 15 of their respective individual events. Plaisted qualified for the finals and finished eighth overall in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.04, while Noelting finished second in the consolation and 10th overall in the 100 back with a time of 55.71. Glasscock represented Babson in the 400 IM, where he placed 12th overall in 4:35.52.

In addition to his 50 back performance, Plaisted also finished 16th in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.67. First-year Joel Bonina added a 16th-place effort in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.01, followed closely by classmate Pranav Kotwal in 17th in 1:13.42 and junior Jose Villamar in 18th in 1:16.54.

Babson's other individual performers included first-year Mark Merolle, who placed 25th in the 100 fly, first-year Sam Wear, who finished 21st in the 100 back, and first-years Paul Rollinger and Joe Dimuccio, who placed 25th and 26th, respectively, in the 200 free. The Beavers also had four relay teams in action on Saturday. Plaisted, Glasscock, Noelting, and Wear teamed up to finish seventh in the 200 medley relay, followed by junior Ari Gray, Bonina, Merolle, and Dimuccio in 13th place. In the 800 free relay, Dimuccio, Merolle, Rollinger, and Gray posted a seventh-place finish, while Kotwal, Bonina, first-year Mikita Kourtchikov, and Villamar took 14th.
