Paradis Finishes Third As Men's Swimming And Diving Kicks Off 2008 NEWMAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Babson College men's swimming and diving team ranked fifth overall after day one of the NEWMAC Championships at MIT on Friday. The Beavers were led by sophomore Aaron Paradis, who finished third in the 1-meter diving competition.

The reigning NEWMAC Diver of the year, Paradis placed third off the 1-meter board with a combined score of 480.60. He finished behind a pair of Springfield divers, as Ben Casavant won with a score of 500.30 and Brian Sobol took second with a score of 492.80.

Babson also had four relay teams in action, highlighted by the quartet of Philippe Noelting, Thayer Glasscock, Sam Wear, and Ted Plaisted, which finished sixth in the 200 free relay and seventh in the 400 medley relay. Paul Rollinger, Pranav Kotwal, Mark Merolle, and Joseph Dimuccio added a 12th-place performance in the 200 free, while Ari Gray, Joel Bonina, Merolle, and Jose Villamar teamed up to place 13th in the 200 free.

 

 

A number of swimmers competed in individual events for the Beavers, including five in the 500 freestyle. Ari Gray finished 26th in that race, followed by Rollinger in 27th, Merolle in 28th, DiMuccio in 30th, and Mikita Kourtchikov in 31st. Noelting added a 24th-place finish in the 200 IM, while Glasscock finished 27th in the same event. Rounding out Babson's individual competitors were Wear, Villamar, and Kotwal, who finished 28th, 30th, and 34th in the 50 free.
