Dec. 11, 2007

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The NEWMAC recently announced its 2007 men's soccer postseason honors, and Babson junior forward Tim Winn (Sutton, Mass.) was named conference Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. He was joined on the All-NEWMAC First Team by seniors Chris Schwartz (Guilford, Conn.) and Chris Necklas (Guilford, Conn.), while seniors Jonny Hakala (New Ipswich, N.H.) and Kevin Owens (Boulder, Colo.) received All-Conference Second Team recognition.

Rounding out Babson's lengthy list of honorees were senior Sam Ensslin (Bangor, Pa.), senior Connor Tyrrell (Lewisberry, Pa.), junior Juan Rodriguez (Sao Paulo, Brazil), sophomore Daniel Fogarty (Brookline, N.H.), sophomore Sean Gleason (Clinton, N.Y.), and sophomore Sean McLaughlan (Sayville, N.Y.), who were all named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team.

By far the most dominant player in the conference this fall, Winn continued to add to his incredible soccer resume with another fantastic season. He led the league and broke his own single-season program record with 17 goals while also recording three assists for 37 total points - the most in the conference and tied for second most in Babson history. In just his third collegiate season, he moved past Jonah Frisch '04 into first place on the Beavers' all-time scoring list with 42 career goals. He currently has 99 career points - second only to Frisch's 104 on the college's all-time points list. Winn is now looking to add his third straight All-New England selection and his second consecutive All-American award to his list of accomplishments when the NSCAA announces its regional and national awards in the coming weeks.

Necklas earned his third All-Conference award and second First Team nod after playing all 1887 of Babson's minutes in net, ranking second in the league with 82 saves and 5.0 shutouts and third in the conference with a 1.16 GAA and a .774 save percentage. Also garnering his second All-NEWMAC First Team selection was Schwartz, who started all 20 games in the midfield and ranked fifth on the team wit two goals and four assists for eight points.

Owens garnered his third straight All-Conference Second Team honor after starting all but one game in the Babson backfield, totaling one goal and one assist for three points. He was joined on the Second Team by Hakala, who received conference recognition for the first time in his career after ranking second on the team and fifth in the NEWMAC in scoring with three goals and six assists for 12 points.

Babson placed six players on the Academic All-Conference Team - the second most in the league. Fogarty was the group's top scorer with two goals and six assists for 10 points in 17 games, including 16 starts. Rodriguez played in all 20 games, making nine starts, and recorded two assists, while Ensslin, Gleason, and Tyrrell appeared in 16 games, 10 games, and two games, respectively.
