March 6, 2008

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) recently announced its all-conference team in men's basketball, and Babson senior tri-captain Kyle McDonald (Wethersfield, Conn.) received First Team honors for the first time in his career.

A swingman who moved to the point guard position late last season, McDonald was unquestionably one of the most improved players in all of Division III in 2007-08. After averaging 5.7 points and 1.2 assists per game in his first three seasons at Babson, he led the team and ranked among the top five in the NEWMAC with 15.1 points and 3.0 assists per contest in his senior campaign. He also led the Beavers with a .502 field goal percentage, including a magnificent .473 clip from three-point range. He drained 43 of his 91 attempts from beyond the arc after connecting on just 5 of 37 (13.5 percent) in his first three seasons combined.

"Kyle worked incredibly hard to improve his game this year," said head coach Stephen Brennan. "Not only did he develop into one of the top shooters in the conference, but he did a magnificent job in filling a huge hole at point guard for us. This is a well-deserved honor for a very talented and dedicated player."

Facing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, Babson finished the year with a record of 10-16 and lost by a single point to top-seeded WPI in the conference semifinals. McDonald turned in some of his finest performances against some of the country's strongest teams, including a career-high 32 points against eventual #1-ranked Washington University at the Lopata Classic on December 1. He was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Lopata, as well as Babson's own Invitational Tournament presented by Irving Oil.

Also receiving honors on Tuesday were senior tri-captain Chris Bilodeau (Hull, Mass.) and sophomore Peter Skogg (Orange, Conn.), who were both named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team. Bilodeau battled back from two major leg injuries to play the final two regular season games for the Beavers, while Skogg appeared in all 26 games off the bench, averaging 2.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.
