The Babson College Men's Basketball Program has a rich tradition of success both on and off the court. Coach Brennan is entering his 19th year with the program and 13th as the head coach. During his tenure he has helped guide the team to five NCAA Tournaments, numerous ECAC appearances, including an ECAC Championship in 2003, earned five Conference Coach of the Year Awards and two New England Coach of the Year Awards and his 2002 squad ended the year as the best scoring defense in Division III.
Despite these on the court successes, "Coach B," as he is known to his players, is most committed to running a comprehensive program that values the personal development of each student-athlete from their transition to college to their four years at Babson College and finally securing opportunities as alumni. Babson College is committed to being a leader in management education and developing "life long learners" who can adapt to the ever-changing global world we live in and our program is an extension of this community and mission.
We actively recruit student-athletes who want to be part of a winning culture that values them for their talent, ability to put the team's collective identity above individual achievement, accountability to teammates, character, and focus on becoming the best college basketball player they can be based on their work ethic and coachability. Student-athletes who choose Babson College will find a staff that is committed to competing on a regional and national level yet understands the balance and challenges of being a student-athlete at a highly competitive school. We play one of the country's most demanding schedules but not at the expense of academics, as we play 75% of our games on breaks and weekends. We take a yearly trip during the winter break to play out-of-region games in warm climates like California or Florida.
In order to compete for a NEWMAC (New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference) title or to advance in the NCAA tournament a team must be capable of winning games on successive days. Since winning a conference title ensures an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament we play nine to ten players in every game because depth allows our practices to be most competitive and ensures that we can compete successfully on back-to-back days. In terms of style of play, it starts on the defensive end. Since tournament play is generally a half-court game we pride ourselves on our half-court defense and game preparation. Our ability to guard the ball, as the game of basketball has become dominated by a "drive and kick" mentality, determines how aggressively we can attack opponents. It is imperative that we protect the rim and become the best "rotation team" we can be both against the bounce and in defending the post. Offensively, we run when it's there and then game plan to our yearly strengths based on returning personnel and incoming first-year recruits.
