         <description><![CDATA[The Babson College Athletics Department held its 27th Annual Senior Awards Banquet on Sunday night, where a total of seven student-athletes were honored. Women's soccer and Swimming and Diving senior Meg Lynch was named Female Athlete of the Class, while men's soccer senior Chris Necklas was selected as the Male Athlete of the Class. Softball senior Jess Byrn and baseball senior Matt Delaney were named the Scholar-Athletes of the Class, and track and field senior Dan Cowan took home the Michael J. Conlon Award. In addition to the senior awards, President Brian M. Barefoot '66 P'01 and his wife Pam Barefoot P'01 were the recipients of the prestigious Paul C. Staake Award for outstanding contributions to Babson Athletics, while a pair of first-year athletes were also honored. Women's soccer, basketball, and lacrosse first-year Kristy Benoit received the Lori Vengrow Award, and baseball freshman Andrew Aizenstadt claimed the Colin "Chip" Brown Award.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[Babson senior captain Dan Cowan and sophomore captain Lauren Blackburn both made history on Saturday, as each earned All-New England honors at the 2008 NCAA New England Division III Championships at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Competing in the 110 meter hurdles, Cowan placed seventh in the qualifying heat with a time of 15.85. He followed that up with another seventh-place effort in the finals, finishing in 15.95 seconds. It marked the third straight season in which the senior star garnered All-New England honors in the event, making him the first person in Babson track and field history to earn regional honors in three different seasons. Meanwhile, Blackburn broke into the top eight in the 400 meter hurdles with a spectacular time of 1:06.24 on Saturday, helping her garner All-New England honors for the first time in her young career. It was the second fastest time in Babson history behind her own school record of 1:05.04 set at last week's NEWMAC Championships.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[Sophomore captain Lauren Blackburn became just the second female in Babson track and field history to earn All-Conference honors on Saturday, as she placed second in the 400 meter hurdles at the 2008 NEWMAC Championships at Smith College. The women's team finished eighth at the event, while the men placed sixth. Continuing her spectacular season, Blackburn recovered from a slow start with a huge finish in the 400 hurdles, passing numerous opponents to finish just 0.16 seconds behind event winner Leanne Veldhuis of MIT. Blackburn's time of 1:05.04 broke her own school record and was just 0.90 seconds off of the provisional qualifying time for the NCAA National Championships. As a result of her second place finish, she earned a spot on the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team, joining senior teammate Nadine Lussier as the only two women in Babson history to garner all-league honors.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The Babson track and field teams enjoyed yet another fantastic day at the non-scoring MIT Spring Invitational on Saturday, where the Beavers posted nine personal records, four school records, two New England qualifiers, and three ECAC qualifiers. Leading the way was sophomore Lauren Blackburn, who contributed to three record-breaking performances. She set a new school record and qualified for the ECAC Championships with a 16.29 in the 100 meter hurdles, placing fifth overall, and then won the 400 meter hurdle event with a time of 1:06.28 - also a school record. The sophomore sensation closed out her outstanding day by joining first-year Nicole Crowley, first-year Lauren Palmer, and senior captain Claudia Schulz in the 4x400 relay, where the quartert set a new school mark with a time of 4:27.52. Crowley added a New England qualiying performance in the 100 hurdles, Schulz qualified for both regionals and the ECACs in the 1500 meter run, and senior captain Dan Cowan earned a spot in the ECAC Championships in the 110 meter hurdles.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The Babson track and field teams participated in the non-scoring George Davis Invitational at UMass-Lowell on Saturday, where senior captain Claudia Schulz and sophomore Lauren Blackburn both qualified for the ECAC Championships with exceptional performances. Schulz became just the second runner in Babson history to break the 19-minute mark in the 5000 meter run, as she placed second overall with a time of 18:58.77. It was the third fastest mark in program history behind Lydia Halloran's finishes of 18:52.20 and 18:54.13. Blackburn joined Schulz with an ECAC-qualifying performance, as she placed second with a time of 1:07.13 in the 400 hurdles.          <description><![CDATA[The Babson women's track and field team turned in a brilliant performance amid miserable conditions at the 2008 Snowflake Invitational at Tufts University on Saturday, as they overcame bitter cold and wind to place seventh out of 20 teams. The men also competed at Tufts, where they gutted out an 11th-place performance out of 19 squads. Highlighting the day for the ladies was sophomore captain Lauren Blackburn, who qualified for the New England Division III Championships in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles, placing fifth and sixth, respectively, in those events. First-year Larina Kleynerman also had a big day for the Babson women, finishing fifth in the 100 meter dash and sixth in the 200, while senior captain Claudia Schulz took eighth in the mile in 5:05.41 and ninth in the 800. For the men, junior Greg Keshian once again led the team by placing fourth overall in the 800 amd 10th in the mile.]]></description>

Leading the women's team were first-year Larina Kleynerman and senior captain Claudia Schulz. Kleynerman placed fourth in the 200 meter dash and fifth in the 100, while Schulz finished eighth in the 5000 meter run and ninth in the 800. Also performing well for the ladies was first-year Nicole Crowley, who finished first out of three competitors in the 400 hurldes and took eighth in the 100 hurdles. The men were led by junior Greg Keshian, who finished third in the 5000 meter run, and senior captain Dan Cowan, who took third in the 400 hurdles. First-year Jordan Bray also got off to a strong start, placing 14th overall in the 5000, as did sophomore William Dickson, who finished 14th in the javelin.]]></description>

In addition, the men received Team Academic All-American honors. Earning Academic All-American recognition were Kristen Lang (Kennebunk, Maine) for the women's team and Sherwin Parkhurst (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), Kirill Kustov (Gaithersburg, Md.), Dan Cowan (Toms River, N.J.), Ryan Salomone (Longmeadow, Mass.), Pat Socorro (New York, N.Y.), and Greg Keshian (North Andover, Mass.) for the men's squad. The seven individual honorees was the third most of any Division III school in the country.]]></description>
