William F. Lunnie '62

Year Inducted: 1997 (sixth induction class)

Accomplishments: A two-year, two-sport captain who is among the greatest athletes in school history, Bill Lunnie won the prestigious Roger Babson Award as the top athlete in his graduating class. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Lunnie was a basketball and golf standout at Providence Country Day School before matriculating to Babson, at the time a three-year institute. Lunnie became as immediate starter for coach Tim Smith's basketball team, captaining the squad his junior and senior seasons. A sharpshooting guard, Lunnie once hit ten shots in a row in a game against Nichols College. He was named to the Greater Boston All-Star team in 1962, the first Beaver to receive such an honor. On the links, Lunnie was a three-year letterwinner for coach Smith, never playing lower than number four and captaining the team for two years. Following his graduation, went on to serve as President of the Rhode Island Golf Association and was chair of the prestigious Northeast Amateur for 13 years.
